Sound Awareness

Sound is powerful. It affects most of us deeply, yet we rarely stop to consider how it works or how it influences us. Are we aware of how sound affects our body, emotions, and thoughts? Are we giving ourselves the sounds we need, and how do we deal with sounds we find challenging?


Sound can affect us on many different levels.

  • It can be felt physically in the body.
  • It can fill us with energy and make us want to move, or it can drain us.
  • It can make us feel safe and uplifted, or invoke deep fear.
  • It can support clear thinking and logic, or blur our focus.
  • It can draw us in, or make us want to move away.
  • It can evoke strong memories.
  • It can help us connect to something beyond ourselves.

The course combines exploration in the outside world with personal discovery. You will learn about the effects of sound by focusing on one aspect at a time, while being given practical tools to support your development.

  • Understand how sound can support healing in the body.
  • Learn how to access and trust your own inner knowledge.
  • Recognise which sounds enrich your life and which sounds work against you, and what to do about this.
  • Find a productive and personal way of working with sound.
  • Develop stronger listening skills, both in everyday life and in music making.
  • Learn how to move out of difficult situations so you can move forward.
  • Explore how sound can be used to support others and the wider environment.
